First of the twelve Jyotirlingas

Somnath darshan.

Somnath, on the shore at Prabhas Patan, is revered as the first of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Its sea-facing temple, rebuilt after independence, is one of India's most moving places of worship.

Why pilgrims come here

The temple has been destroyed and rebuilt many times through history, and today's temple, built in the Chalukya style, stands as a symbol of resilience. Its location facing the open sea is unforgettable at sunset.

Nearby are Triveni Sangam, where three rivers meet the sea, and Bhalka Tirth, where Shri Krishna is believed to have been struck by an arrow before leaving his earthly form.

Darshan & aarti tips

  • The temple is open from early morning to night, with aartis at fixed times through the day. Check current timings.
  • A sound-and-light show is usually held in the evening near the temple; confirm timings locally.
  • Phones, cameras and bags are not allowed inside; use the lockers near the entrance.
  • Shravan month and Mahashivratri are extremely busy; plan an early arrival.

Timings change. Temple timings vary with seasons and festivals. Always confirm the day's darshan and aarti schedule with the temple's official sources before you travel. We'll plan your departure around it.
